This time of year is always nuts as I get ready for my annual road trip from Detroit to Vegas to show my art at SEMA. The 2015 version is going to be CRAZY. You know I’m serious because I used all capital letters. Stay tuned to this channel for a good time. I’ll have more on the how and the why next week.

In the meantime it’s #semacrunch time. With the left side still bothering me and the new teaching gig and the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and the prototype shop going full tilt it’s been a struggle to get new work done. I bit off a pretty big chunk to chew with this one...it’s a little out of my comfort zone...but where you don’t take chances there is no evolution. The form usually comes pretty easy to me, but I was banging my head against a wall trying to get this piece to look just right. It’s crazy how a little metal added here or subtracted there can make or break the proportions of a sculpture. In the end all of the cursing and tool throwing and pleading with the heavens paid off and I’m really happy with it; it’s a 1973 Porsche Carrera RS.

Also, I did another version of a character piece I first built a few years back. Tough Nut 2.0

Last week I did a couple more flat pieces, one is my second take on the Pontiac Chieftain:

And I’m officially working with Weiler Corp.; if you know me you get that I don’t partner with a company unless I believe in the people and the product. They are an American abrasives manufacturer who recently launch a flap disc called Tiger X. I’ve been using them for about a year...they are killer. Anyways, Fabtech is in Chicago this year the week after SEMA, so the day after I return to Detroit I’m driving to Chi-town where part of the time I’ll be meeting and greeting and talking shop with people in Weiler’s booth. We’ll be giving away a piece I have yet to make, it’ll be based on their logo—-which is a kick ass tiger. I did a version of it here:

I’m hoping to get one more sculpture done this week. If you’re at SEMA make sure to stop by the Art Walk, I’ll post the map to where we are up on social media at some point. The Hoonicorn sculpture will be on display before it ships off to Mr. Block, plus a handful of other pieces. And the artists I’m there with are next level: Ed Tillrock, Max Grundy, James Owens, Jeff Allison, Bomonster, and Tom Fritz.

For real though. The road trip is going to be bonkers. Hyperbole is unpossible.

Your stuff is awesome! Looking forward to checking it out at SEMA this year.

I know all about the crunch time. We’re scrambling at work right now to get everything finalized, prepped, shipped, etc in time for AAPEX.

I’m not sure which fact offends me more; that there is a brown dog out there somewhere that can wield and type on the internet, or that it clearly lives a far more interesting life than I do.
